Family History
I’m not good at sharing the gospel with the living and not all the members of my family are excited about gospel principles and doctrine I want to share, but I feel that they look to me to be an example, and if I fail, they are paying attention, but I also feel like when I don’t fail, they see that too.
When I am an active participant in family history, I feel like I am not failing and that the family members I help on the other side are excited about gospel principles I am sharing with them.
“Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about. And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.” 2 Kings 6:15-17
In the moments I engage in family history work, I realize that there are more with me than the opposition that seems to be against me, and as long as I am doing what God wants, I cannot fail in developing my own testimony or sharing my testimony with the members of my living family.
There are more people on the other side rooting for all of us down here on earth, and if we can remember that we will be given strength to keep going forward.
“We can do all things through Christ that strenghteneth me.” Philippians 4:13
When I engage in family history work and take names to the temple, I often see things I would not normally get to see. I will leave this example to my children and family when I pass on to the other side and hope my example will lead them to see what I saw.
“When the focus of our life is on God’s plan of salvation and Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel peace regardless of what is happening or not happening. Jesus is our source of all joy.” President Russell M. Nelson
