Vance David Stapley
2022-2024 Missionary Serving In Madagascar
"Within my heart is the compelling desire that all members of the Church, young and old, be influenced by and motivated by that special spirit which accompanies the sharing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Would that all had intimate and continuous association with the missionary spirit!"
Elder Carlos E. Asay

Vance has been serving the Butte Second Ward and Butte Stake since 2022 and into 2023. His family is moving to Billings this summer of 2023, so Vance will be returning home there.
We are so grateful for the service he gave to our city, ward, and stake. We are blessed because of his diligence and courage.
Thank you Vance for helping to gather Israel.
Below are some photos of his service.
If you have a son or daughter who would like to serve a mission for the Butte Second Ward, contact the missionaries serving in our Butte Second Ward, and they can help you get started.

Vance Stapley On His Mission

In these pictures, Elder Stapley is learning how to make Pakopako, which he was told is an Antananarivo delicacy.
Elder Stapley is also teaching a program to the people of Madagascar, English Connect, which they offer every week at the church for anyone who wants to learn English.
“The responsibility rests squarely upon each of us to follow the example of the Master and teach like Him.”
Jan E. Newman, Second Counselor in the Sunday School General Presidency.
There are many things in the world we don’t know how to do, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn them. Being teachable is a gift to us, because when we are teachable, we learn, gain knowledge, and experience new levels of humility.

In these pictures, he is with an Elder from the Philippines who arrived the same time as he did, Elder Lopez.
They are going back to their apartment in the middle of a rainstorm after a family home evening.
He is also carrying water to someone's house. He says that many places in Madagascar do not have their own water.
“As I have loved you, Love one another. This new Commandment, Love one another. By this shall men know, Ye are My disciples, If ye have love, One to another.” Hymn #308
When we love one another, we are keeping God’s commandments.

In this picture, Elder Stapley is helping pull a cart for someone who he and his companion met on the street.
The last picture is of a Lemar. The Lemar is a known species in Madagascar that Vance will likely get familiar with.
“Now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men. Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve Him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day. Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God, ye are called to the work.”
Doctrine and Covenants 4:1-3
